Coriander seed is actually the dried, ripe fruit if the coriander plant. The leaves of the coriander plant are more commonly known as cilantro and bear no taste resemblance to the seed. Coriander has a mild, herbal aroma and is used, whole or ground, in a variety of dishes and cuisines.
